Microbial communities in resurgence areas

As groundwater rises from the subsurface to the surface, it flows into a plethora of environments, such as wetlands, streams, lakes, or rivers. In doing so, it brings with it planktonic microbial communities, which will compose part of the microbial diversity in these surface habitats, also called resurgence zones.

This project aims to study the impact of the diversity of planktonic communities making up underground waters, on the global diversity constituting the resurgence environments. This study is based on samples collected from a large number of sites in the Laurentians.
