Interactions between planktonic microorganisms in groundwater

Pierre obtained his bachelor's degree in biology with a specialization in ecology at the Université du Québec à Montréal before continuing his studies with a master's project in Dr. Lazar's laboratory.
This project focuses on the study of the dynamics of interactions between microorganisms dominating two aquifers in Quebec and the exploration of the underlying metabolic implications. This project aims to deepen the understanding of the interactions existing in the microbial communities living in these freshwater reserves. This is why the first axis focuses on different types of culture: pure cultures and cocultures with physicochemical parameters identical to those of the mine. Thanks to this, the nanopore sequencing carried out in the second axis of the project will provide the information necessary to understand how these microorganisms function individually and in community from a metabolic point of view.
