When archaeology meets microbial ecology: a case study at the fort Ville-Marie site

David earned his bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of Montreal with a focus on archaeology. He then continued his studies by completing a microprogram focused on the study of bioarchaeology. Every summer since 2018, he has been a laboratory assistant at the McGill University Health Center and has accumulated a wealth of knowledge, particularly in molecular biology. At the University of Quebec in Montreal, he is undertaking a master's degree with Dr. Lazar, which will combine archaeology and biology.
His master's project will focus on the extraction of ancient DNA in an archaeological context at the Pointe-à-Callière Museum. In its basement, the foundations of the first European habitation on the territory of what is now Montreal are located. The master's project will aim to deepen our knowledge of the site's microbial communities as well as research with an anthropological orientation that could help us better understand the environment in which the first settlers lived.
