CONTINENTAL SUBSURFACE HABITATS
Abandoned Mines
The underground world includes artificial environments such as abandoned mines. These habitats are formed when mines are abandoned and groundwater and surface water flood the man-made underground tunnels. This leads to the creation of unique subsurface habitats, with specific microbial communities adapted to their environment.
